The other day I watched ducks. I don't often watch ducks. But then, I don't often sit parked in my air conditioned car next to a pond to escape the heat while listening to music and breaking out in spontaneous praise to God either.
The spontaneous praise thing - do you know of which I speak? It's when you are caught up in the moment and your center is absorbing the beauty of simple things (like ducks) and your senses are tuned to a heightened awareness of God.
This used to happen to me a lot, especially when I was younger and much less sophisticated in my faith. Back before I carried the burdens of Churchianity.
I am discovering Jesus more frequently of late, though He's been there all along - within the margins of my motion. He's been patiently waiting for me to disengage from the distractions of ministry so that I might enjoy Him and love others.
You, Oh Lord are not a burden.
You are my soul's delight.
The heavy things are the stuff of earth.
In You I am light and free and I soar like an eagle...
or, at least like a duck.
